What started off as a coffin shaped cabinet quickly transformed into a diamond when the blue lacquer was applied. It is a beautiful change of pace for radio presentation. Fiddle-back maple from my guitar supplies makes up the top panel and speaker grill while solid brass knobs and large brass tube plate connection bars add perfect accents to the shaded blue surfaces. This is about as unique a gift that could possibly be and would delight even the most discriminating electronics buff on your list! The circuit is a regenerative 1930’s layout from Dave Schmarder centered around that big 1625 valve. It sports a honeycomb coil I wound with 180/46 litz wire along with a standard 365pF variable capacitor for the tank. A variable trimmer capacitor set at 30pF couples the antenna to the tank. A 1n004 diode to the plate circuit along with a 1,000uF electrolytic filter capacitor block static and hum from the 12vdc wall wart transformer. A 5k pot regulates voltage in the regenerative circuit and a small amplifier and speaker provide convenient listening pleasure.
The result is a fine looking radio with excellent performance for a single tube set.
